The Christmas Season is in full swing in Morgan County as homes are lit up and adorned with holiday apparel and even Santa Himself has been spotted in town. Santa made a special appearance last Saturday at the annual Christmas on Dixie event, which featured a spectacular display of Christmas blowup characters, lights, hot chocolate and meet-and-greet with good ole’ St. Nick. Did you miss it? Well, don’t despair. Round two of Christmas on Dixie will take place this Saturday, Dec. 17 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for those who missed last Saturday or for families who want to enjoy the magical experience all over again.

Every year for the last four years, two Morgan County families have collaborated to orchestrate this free Christmas extravaganza that gains more popularity with each passing year.

The Seabolt and McCurley families fill the corner lot between Dixie Highway and Wilson Road in Madison with over 100 holiday-themed blow-up displays and Christmas lights for the local community to enjoy.  The tradition started years ago with the Seabolts just trying to make Christmas a magical time for their own children.  Once they saw how much their own kids loved it and how big they could make the display, they decided to open it up to the entire community for free each year. “We do this for the community. We hope this will be the biggest year yet,” said Shane Seabolt, who noted last year’s event drew around 300 people.

“We are really proud of this event and what it means to people. A lot of children who otherwise might not get to see Santa Claus get to see him because of this,” said Seabolt.

The displays and lights are on every night throughout the Christmas season, but this Saturday, once again, Santa Claus will make a special appearance at the Christmas on Dixie event. Families can bring their children to sit with Santa for free and are encouraged to bring their own cameras to take pictures. Hot chocolate will also be given out to attending families.
