Ellison Franklin Whitehead, Sr. of Madison died October 21, 2017. He passed peacefully at his home. Mr. Whitehead was born January 20, 1933 in Greene County to Hugh and Pauline Stone Whitehead. He was married August 19, 1955 to Jane Goss. Together they raised a son, Ellison Franklin Whitehead, Jr. Mr. Whitehead was retired from Georgia Pacific, where he worked as a forester. He was a longtime member of Beacon Heights Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Mr. Whitehead was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed coaching baseball. He coached little league baseball in Morgan County long after his son was grown. He was a supporter of Morgan County High School sports and the Morgan County Recreation Department. Mr. Whitehead also enjoyed quail hunting and working his dogs.
Mr. Whitehead is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jane Whitehead. He also leaves a son, Frank Whitehead Jr. and Lynn and a grandson, Trey Whitehead and Caitlyn. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
The family received friends on Monday, October 23 from 12:30 – 2:00 p.m. at A.E. Carter Funeral Home. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Interment followed at the Madison City Cemetery.
