Middle School competes at Cross-Country State Championships

The Morgan County Middle School cross-country teams competed at the Georgia State Middle School Championships in Cochran Saturday.

According to Mile Split writer Bruce Taylor, this was the 11th version of the Georgia Middle School State Cross Country Championships hosted by Bleckley County HS.

The meet began back in 2006/2007 with a modest beginning including 120 runners, maybe 8-9 schools and just 2 races.

It has come a long way since, as this season with attendance of 5000 or more, including 2200 runners registered, including 95 schools, and now 12 races with a separate gender JV race for each class.

Races began at 8 a.m. with the Elementary Mile. Temperatures were higher than average for Mid-October (mid/high 80’s) after a relatively mild August thru mid-September.

Kaily Mitchell came in 83rd out of 153 for the girls with a time of 16:21.

Rhett Spinks came in 46th out of 162 with a time of 13:12.
