Roy Spence was born on Aug. 16, 1920, in Lilburn and went home to be with our Lord Jesus on Oct. 29, 2017. Roy was known as “Ed” to his family, and “Roy” to friends and business acquaintances. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Allene Greeson Spence, mother, Mamie Belle Spence, father, Dewitt Talmadge Spence, brothers, J.C. Spence, Hoyt Spence, Everett Spence, Charlie Spence, sister, Mary Lou Graham, and grandson Richard E. Spence. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Cindy Spence, granddaughter and husband, Shannon and Steve Collier, granddaughter-in-law, Karen Spence, great grandchildren, Will Collier, Amelia Collier, Rebecca Spence, Annabeth Spence Melton and husband, Kevin, great-great grandson, Branch Melton, brother, Luther B. Spence and his wife, Jean, and sister, Lucille Maddox and husband, Ray, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
Roy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville, and he loved his church, his pastors, and he loved his Lord Jesus.
Roy was a builder, and he built many beautiful homes for many families all over Gwinnett and DeKalb counties. He loved his family more than anything, and they loved him in return. He was a warm and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. He really enjoyed fishing, Atlanta Braves games, Spring Training, Disney World, and traveling with his family.
A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at Tom M. Wages Lawrenceville Chapel with the Rev. Grady Mosely officiating. Interment followed at Gwinnett Memorial Park. The family received friends on Tuesday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Lawrenceville Cooperative Ministry, a local food bank that helps many in need as well as the homeless. The address is: P.O.
