Marching through the seasons

Football Half-Time Shows are not the only opportunities for the Morgan County High School Marching Band to shine. This December is a busy month for the band, with a number of special holiday performances.

The MCHS Marching Band (MCHS) is headed to Atlanta this Saturday, Dec. 2, to perform in the annual Children’s Christmas Parade. The parade will be televised on WSB-TV2 (ABC) between 10 a.m. and noon. Tune in to support the Bulldog Marching band in the annual Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta parade as our students play music to bring attention to the healthcare needs of children in Georgia and ring in the Christmas season.

“The Children’s Christmas Parade will step off at Peachtree St. and 16th St. and end at Peachtree St. and 5th St. Watch as Midtown Atlanta will be transformed into Santa Claus Lane with the sights and sounds of the season,” stated a press release from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. “With floats, giant helium-filled balloons and marching bands, the Children’s Christmas Parade will be the largest holiday parade in the southeast. Thousands of spectators will be lined up along the streets eagerly awaiting the arrival of Santa and the official beginning of the holiday season in Atlanta. Can’t make it to Peachtree Street? Please tune in to WSB-TV Channel 2 to view the Children’s Christmas Parade live.”

MCHS Band Director Jeffrey Rowser is excited to participate in this year’s event.

“As we stroll the street in our pride, over 300,000 people generally attend.  I am convinced the crowd will be larger with the SEC Championship in town as usual…” said Rowser.

While the Christmas Parade in Atlanta will ensure statewide exposure for the MCHS Bulldog Marching Band, it’s an upcoming hometown performance that will garner that special One Morgan spirit and support that the band enjoys most.

The MCHS Bulldog Marching Band will play in Madison’s annual Hometown Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m.

According to The City of Madison, “We’ll be parading through Downtown Madison to ring in the Christmas Holiday! The Holiday Parade will feature floats, walking groups, vintage cars, horses, dogs, dancers, and the award winning MCHS Marching Bulldog Band, all decorated to this year’s theme, ‘Deck the Halls.’ Show your community spirit and join the fun by entering your business or organization in the parade.”

Finally, The MCHS Bulldog Marching Band will cap off the Holiday Season with the high school’s annual Holiday Concert on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. in the MCHS auditorium.

“We are always proud to represent our school and community, with many fine performances under our belt and some really fine things coming in our future,” said Rowser.
