A Madison woman was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute on Friday, Dec. 1 after officers allegedly located several containers of suspected marijuana in her vehicle after a traffic stop.

According to reports, Latoya Waskete Hunt, 37, Madison, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana in a drug free zone, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute and safety belt violation after the 2004 Chevrolet Monte Carlo she was driving was stopped in the Lowe’s parking lot after officer Stacey Eaton reported that she was not wearing a safety belt.

Eaton said in his report that he followed the Monte Carlo hoping that the driver would eventually buckle her seat belt. When the driver never buckled the belt, Eaton initiated a traffic stop.

Consequent to the stop, Eaton reported he smelled green marijuana and a cherry masking spray coming from the vehicle.

Reports state that Hunt told Eaton and a second officer that she had a small quantity of marijuana in her jacket pocket. She removed a small plastic bag and handed it to an officer.

Eaton searched the vehicle and found a glass jar that contained a black bag. Inside the black bag was a larger clear plastic bag of suspected marijuana. At that point, Hunt was placed in handcuffs.

Reports state that officers also located a small set of digital scales in her pocket that “was covered with marijuana residue.”
