Basketball for the Dogs’ future looks extremely bright when assessing the talent of the younger players hitting the hardwood at Morgan County Middle School. The boys went on the road this past week coming up with wins over Jefferson 48-40 and Monticello 55-21. It was the fourth straight win for Bo Larkin’s squad with three games looming this coming week. They will face off with Social Circle Monday in a makeup game from Friday’s game cancelled due to weather conditions, and then take on Youth Dec. 11 and Putnam Dec. 13. All games are schedule for home with girls tipping off at 4:30 and boys to follow.
It was a close one for the boys against Jefferson to start off the week. Morgan got 16 points each from Marquavious Wright and Ty Butler to lead all scorers. Coach Bo Larkin commented on the game, “We played very well in the win. We were shorthanded with four players at a band concert, but the guys stepped up. Jefferson is a very solid program that is well coached and gets after it. Both teams matched up evenly but we executed on both ends of the floor to jump out to a 14 point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Ty made a couple sets of late free throws down the stretch to seal the win.”
The Dogs turned up the defensive heat at Monticello in back-to-back games allowing only six first half points to take a commanding 27-6 lead. The Pups coasted in with the victory after that. Eleven players scored in the 55-21 lopsided win. “We played well from the tip, especially on the defensive end allowing only three points in both the first and the second quarters. It was a team effort on offense with everyone ready to play when their numbers were called. I am proud of them for that, especially after a long night on Tuesday at Jefferson. Our guys are continuing to execute their roles and are getting better every day.”
