Junior Varsity falls short to Salem

With only one game under their belt this past week due to the weather cancellations, the Morgan County JV boys came up short in a 45-35 loss to a good Salem squad.

The Milfred Franklin led Bulldogs kept things close in the first quarter with three-pointers by Tee Nelson, Daylan Pitts, and Desmond White.  They trailed 12-11 at that point, but a dismal offensive showing in the second quarter put them behind the eight ball.  They played catch-up the entire second half, coming up short.

“We played well for three quarters but the one quarter we played bad it put us in the scrambling mode trying to catch up.  We were able to close the lead within four but we ran out of gas to make that one last push to get the win. The team understands now we must compete on every play and be mentally focused when they step on the court.  With such a long break before we play again, we are looking forward to preparing ourselves for the region games,” said Franklin.

The Bulldogs got 12 points (all in the second half) from Trent Folds, 10 from D. White, 8 from Nelson, 3 from Pitts, and 2 from Armond Wright.  They were 5-of-5 from the free throw line.  During that second period Morgan was outscored 14-2 and that was the difference in the game.

The boys are off until after Christmas break.  They will take on Franklin County December 2, in a home game beginning at 4:30 followed by the first varsity 8-AAA Region games.
