Horse shot, killed in Buckhead

Morgan County authorities are treating as “suspicious” the apparent shooting death of a horse on Perryman Road in the town of Buckhead.

According to Morgan County Sheriff’s Office reports, a woman told deputies that when she arrived home to her Perryman road residence she noticed her white mare horse dead in its pen next to a barn.

The complainant said she left the residence around 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 5 and returned around 5:30 p.m. and found the horse still warm to the touch but deceased.

Reports state that the woman noted there was an apparent gunshot wound behind one of the horse’s eyes.

The woman contacted her veterinarian who advised her the death was “suspicious” and that the shot appeared to be from a small caliber weapon.
