Elease Hawk Shepherd, 81 of Rutledge, died January 20, 2018 at her home. Mrs. Shepherd was born February 9, 1936 in Morgan County to the late Hulon and Erna S. Hawk. She was married to the late Walter Bonny Shepherd. They made their home in Rutledge, where together they operated the family farm and raised three children. Mrs. Shepherd was a member of Rutledge United Methodist Church. Besides helping manage the farm, Mrs. Shepherd also was an antique dealer. She was a devoted wife mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Shepherd is survived by her children, Barbara S. Valentine and Hunter, Alan Shepherd and Sara and Mark Shepherd and Fay. Her grandchildren are Scott Valentine, Hatton Valentine and Jim Valentine; Walter Alan Shepherd and Gray Malcom Shepherd; and Faybria Diana O’Neill and Eric and Clay Shepherd. Great grandchildren are Sara Gray Fuller, Mackenzie Elease O’Neill, Kennedy Chenae O’Neill, Mary Scott Valentine, Anna Valentine, Flynn Valentine, Ellie Valentine and Olivia Valentine. Mrs. Shepherd also leaves siblings, Deborah Conner and Jimmy, Jimmy Hawk and Suzanne and two sisters-in-law, Joann S. Bell and Nell S. Kinney. Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by her parents as well as her husband, Bonny.
The family received friends on Wednesday, January 24, at 10 a.m. at the fellowship hall of Rutledge United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary. Interment followed at the Rutledge City Cemetery.
