Sentences given in criminal court week

Morgan County Superior Court held a criminal trail week last week at the Morgan County Courthouse. The following persons were adjudicated during the criminal trial week.

Chadwick Taylor Armistead, 22, Madison pled guilty to one count possession of methamphetamine. He was sentenced to eight years probation and was fined $1,000. According to court records, Armistead was arrested on Sept. 9, 2016 by a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office investigator after the investigator and other officers executed a search warrant on a Parsonage Road. Arrest warrants allege that officers located 18.7 grams of methamphetamine, five oxycodone pills, 129 xanax pills, 11 ecstasy pills and two baggies with less than an ounce of marijuana. Thirty-nine amphetamine pills and two more xanax pills were found in a Honda on the property.

Tony Lanier Garrett, 33, Madison pled guilty to one count possession of methamphetamine and one count DUI drugs. He was sentenced to eight years with the first 48 hours to be served in confinement and the remainder to be served on probation. He was also fined $1,000. According to court records, Garrett was arrested by a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Aug. 25, 2016 during a traffic stop on South Main Street. Consequent to the stop, warrants allege, a deputy located a small bag of suspected methamphetamine in his patrol vehicle after he had driven Garrett to the Morgan County Detention Center.

Jeffery Scott Almand, 43, Buckhead pled guilty to one count possession of methamphetamine and one count possession of drug related objects. He was sentenced to three years probational and fined $1,000. According to court records, Almand was arrested by a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Feb. 3, 2017 when a deputy noticed Almand sitting in a vehicle in the rear of the Buckhead Cemetery. The officer searched Almand and located a meth pipe with meth residue on the inside of Almand’s waistband.

Ashton Michele Cleveland, 27, Monticello pled guilty to one count DUI drugs and one count drugs not in original container. She was sentenced to one year with the first 48 hours to be served in confinement and the remainder to be served on probation. She was fined $800. According to court records, Cleveland was arrested by a Morgan County Sheriff’s deputy at 3:26 a.m. on Dec. 16 2016 on the Madison by pass. Warrants allege that Cleveland was impaired and had three Alprazolam in a small plastic container in her vehicle.

Angela Dawn Chavis, 44, Augusta pled guilty to one count DUI less safe and one count failure to maintain lane. She was sentenced to one year with the first 30 days to be served in confinement and remainder to be served on probation. According to court records, Chavis was arrested by a Georgia State Patrol trooper on Jan. 21, 2017 for failure to maintain lane on State Route 12 after she allegedly was driving under the influence of clonazepam.

Marion Lee Boyd, 47, Madison pled guilty to one count aggravated assault and one count battery. He was sentenced to 25 years with eight years to serve and the remainder to be served on probation. He was fined $2,000. According to court records, Boyd was arrested by a Madison Police Department officer on Feb. 13, 2017 after he beat a woman with a metal pipe on March St. on Feb. 3. Warrants allege that the woman had physical damage to her arm, legs and back because of the attack.

Kathleen Robinson Lytel, no age given, Summerville, S.C. pled guilty to one count possession of marijuana less than an ounce and one count possession of marijuana more than an ounce. She was sentenced to 12 years with two years to serve and the remainder to be served on probation. According to court records, Lytel was arrested Jan. 26, 2016 by a Georgia State Patrol trooper after the trooper allegedly found more than four pounds of marijuana in a vehicle Lytel was driving that was involved in a wreck.

Calvin Charles Wade, Jr. 34, Madison pled guilty to one count battery. He was sentenced to six months in the Morgan County Detention Center. He was ordered to pay $10 restitution. According to court records, Wade was arrested on July 4, 2017 by a Madison Police Department officer after he stabbed a woman in the leg with a fork at a Penor Street residence. In a separate incident, Wade pled guilty to one count sudden snatching. In that case he was sentenced to 12 years with three years to serve and the remainder to be served on probation. He was fined $1,000.

Keith Edward Kirkland, 47, Covington pled guilty to four counts financial transaction card fraud. He was sentenced to six years with three years to be served in confinement and remainder to be served on probation. He was fined $1,000. According to court records, Kirkland was arrested by a Madison Police Department officer on Aug. 7, 2017 after he used a debit card that belonged to another person to make several purchases in Madison totalling $1,927.

Tonya Lesesne Coleman, 47, Garland, Texas pled guilty to one count DUI and one count endangering a child while driving under the influence. She was sentenced to one year with the first 48 hours to be served in confinement and the remainder to be served on probation. She was fined $800. According to court records, Coleman was arrested by a Georgia State Patrol trooper at 8:22 p.m. on Interstate 20 on Nov. 27, 2016

• Joshua Garrison Shelton, 27, Monroe pled guilty to two counts driving away without paying for gasoline. He was sentenced to one year probation. He was fined $500. According to court records, Shelton was arrested by a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Sept. 4, 2017. Warrants allege that on Aug. 31, 2017 Shelton pumped $60.22 worth of gas from the River Store, Greensboro Road and drove away without paying. On Aug. 29 he pumped $52.69 worth of gas at the Valero convenience store, Bostwick Highway and left without paying.

Joseph Demardra Currington, 32, Augusta pled guilty to one count possession of marijuana, more than an ounce and one count possession of drug related objects. He was sentenced to five years probation. He was fined $1,000. According to court records, Currington was arrested by a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Sept. 21, 2017 on Interstate 20. Consequent to his arrest the deputy, warrants allege, found 1.2 ounces of marijuana along with digital scales in Currington’s vehicle.

Josine Marie Hyson, 18, Augusta pled guilty to one count crossing the guard line with contraband and one count possession of drug related objects.She was sentenced to five year probation. She was fined $1,000. According to court records, Hyson was arrested by a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Sept. 21, 2017 after she concealed a small plastic bag of marijuana inside her underwear which was found during a strip search at the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

James Paul Kennedy, 55, Auburn, Ga. pled guilty to one count possession of methamphetamine and one count possession of firearm by a convicted felon. He was sentenced to five years probation. He was fined $1,000. According to court records, Kennedy was arrested by a Georgia Department of Natural Resources officer on May 19, 2017 in Rutledge after he, warrants allege, had a vial of methamphetamine and a .22 pistol and ammo on his person.

Christopher Dale Foster, 56, Madison pled guilty to one count manufacture of marijuana and one count possession of drug related objects. He was sentenced to five years probation. He was fined $1,000. According to court records,Foster was arrested by a Morgan County Sheriff’s Office deputy on Aug 8, 2017 after a Georgia State Patrol air unit alerted the deputy to a three foot tall marijuana plant growing at Foster’s Sidwell Road residence. A search of the residence, warrants state, found pipes, a jar of marijuana, rolling papers, scales, a grinder and seeds.

Susan Huff, no age, no address given, pled guilty to one count public drunkeness. She was sentenced to one year probation with the first 48 hours to be served in confinement and the remainder to be served on probation. She was fined $800.
