CRIME ALERT

Staff Reports

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office is warning local residents to be aware of people posing as United States Census Bureau workers who are actually attempting to steal residents identities.
Sheriff Office representatives are reporting that they have received information from neighboring counties that  people posing as census workers are approaching residents at their homes and asking personnel questions. The questions are geared towards gleening personal information that could be used to establish fraudulent banking accounts.
Officers are reminding residents that official census workers will be credentialed with photo identification. If approached by a bogus worker, officers say, residents should request identification. If concerned residents should call 911 and, officers say, attempt to get a complete description of the person including vehicle identification and tag number if possible.
