JV teams split action on the diamond

Morgan County’s JV Diamond Dogs split their season openers to take a hard fought 13-11 win against Cedar Shoals, and a lopsided 12-1 loss to Eastside High School.
"To get a win was very exciting," said Head Coach Allen Crowley. "I though we executed offensively very well, and had just a few defensive miscues."
The Dogs were strong at the plate, with Bancs Bowers going 3-for-5 with one run, and Dudley Spence hitting 3-for-3 with two runs.
All but one starting player notched at least one hit during the contest.
Cameron Kiplinger was the game’s winning pitcher with his four-inning tour of duty, while Kyle Triplett took the save after wrapping up the final three innings.
Friday’s match at Eastside left the Dogs struggling offensively, as Morgan County only managed two hits during the game.
"To their credit, Eastside hit the ball well," said Crowley. "They just outplayed us."
Crowley said that his team will keep on trying to form varsity-level players as the season continues.
"We’re just going to keep working on fundamentals and getting these guys ready to play at the next level," he said.
The JV Diamond Dogs are scheduled to take on Oconee County High School on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
