To the Editor:

How far does the lunatic fringe of the conservative movement in their fear mongering is going to go? And what makes them so oblivious to their own stupidity? They obviously haven’t done their homework. America was founded on bravery, not cowardliness. This is the land of the free and the home of the brave. These people on the other hand are just cowards and crybabies. They have been throwing one un-ending temper tantrum since November 5. They have fallen victim to their own fears and lies and have violated the first rule bull…ology, which is don’t believe your own hype and don’t get caught up in your own games.

What I’m wondering is why anyone would believe anything coming from people who’ve been lying like Blagojevich for the last eight years. Does having a black president suddenly make everything they say true? Let me put it in a way Jeff Foxworthy would put it. If you’re always making mountains out of mole hills and exaggerating things and making things up and you won’t shut up about it you just might be a liar! Now, there are only three reasons someone would embrace lies even when the truth is slapping them in the face. 1. They’re desperate; 2. They’re stupid; or 3, they’re desperately stupid.

Let me break this down for clarification. The desperate are the ones on the fringes who are in permanent panic mode. They believe the sky is falling because God help us we have a black president now and he’s going to destroy us all. They believe black people are stupid and can’t do anything right. The stupid are the ones who don’t know anything. They aren’t socially active or politically knowledge. They don’t vote and they don’t read very much, if at all. All they know is what they hear from other stupid people who don’t know what they’re talking about either and they believe it and go along with it just so they won’t feel left out. The desperately stupid have no excuse because they are informed and active and keep up with what’s going on. They know better and they still give into fear and stupidity anyway. They allow themselves to be influenced by polls and what they read in the newspapers and magazines or what they see on cable news channels or hear on the radio. These are the wishy-washy people who can’t seem to make up their minds one way or the other. When a person reaches a certain level of desperation they start grasping at straws and sometimes those straws come in the form of lies and denial. And if lies are all you have left those lies can start looking real good to you. Much the same way a very ugly woman might start looking good to a very drunk man. This is the mentality we are dealing with right now. We have racists and fascists and flakes that still haven’t gotten over loosing the last election and absolutely cannot come to grips with the idea of an African American president. They are hurt and scared and feel humiliated and the only way they know how to express themselves is (stupidly). They have literally lost their minds and are desperately seeking stupid. But just because they’re desperate, doesn’t mean the rest of us have to act that way too.

Too many of us are getting caught up in the hysteria and feel that we have to publically disagree with everything President Obama does. We would all do ourselves a big favor if we would just lay off and backup. We aren’t doing ourselves any justice by jumping all over him. He already has the press and the left and right wings to deal with as well as healthcare and the economy and a thousand other things. We don’t need to be adding to the problem by shooting our mouths off and adding to all the confusion that’s already out there. If he fails it won’t be from a lack of trying to succeed. It will be because we smothered him to death with all of our complaining and criticizing and bickering. All we’re doing is shooting ourselves in both feet. If we don’t get healthcare reform and the economy working again we’re going to be the ones suffering. Many of us didn’t like the terrible job George Bush did and as bad a job as he did, I never saw anywhere near the hysteria that I’m seeing now and this president is doing a wonderful job in comparison.

Every time you criticize the president unnecessarily and unfairly all you’re doing is adding yourself to the rank and file numbers of the desperate, the stupid and the desperately stupid. As I’m sure will be proven overwhelmingly by the number of attacks I’m sure I’ll be receiving for even writing this letter and Mr. Yost will be getting for publishing it too. If this letter proves anything I hope it proves exactly why we don’t need nuts and liars running our country anymore. And if there’s anything called true justice and common sense they won’t be for a very long time either.
