Change is in the wind. I can’t put my finger on it but somethin’ don’t feel right. Come on Momma! It’s a perfect Fall evening so let’s head over to the Madison Chop House Grille and have Faye shake us up a cocktail or two. Maybe that’ll shake us outta this depressin’ disposition! Momma! Stop cryin’ in your martini! I flat can’t believe you’re just now findin’ out ‘bout Dog Ear Books! Calm down! It ain’t the end of the world! Are you gonna eat those olives? Thanks . . . Lord help us! We’re all gonna need a stout nerve pill to get through this one. Well. I reckon y’all know it’s flat official: Dog Ear Books is closin’ its doors after eight years in Madison this Thursday, but will reopen them in October in Athens on up the road a spell at 162 W. Clayton Street next to the Last Resort Grill. Owner Jon Tonge says all gift certificates will be honored and book exchange credits will still be good. Plus Jon says he’s gonna figure somethin’ out ‘bout deliverin’ books to Madison for us once a week so y’all keep watchin’ this column for more intel on that! Jon, I reckon this is goodbye although I know we’ll see you during visits to Athens! Oh well . . . we’ll just have to get glad in the same britches we got sad in!

Ella’s Sweet Shoppe located at 191 West Jefferson St., in downtown Madison is gonna be the absolute first retail destination in the entire United States of America to sell Candy Silly Bandz! Honey Alison Tremonti just flat gave me the heads up! Ok so these crazy Candy Silly Bandz will be at Ella’s Thursday! If you think your kids are already crazy, wait till they get a load of CANDY SILLY BANDZ!
Good news! October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Spa at the James Madison is gonna do it up right! Honey, they’re hostin’ Breast Cancer Survivor Day Wednesday, Oct. 6 from 10 a.m. til 5 p.m. and will treat Breast Cancer survivors will a complimentary service of their choice, including: massage, facial, detox foot band bath, pedicure/manicure or hair cut! Y’all book your complimentary appointment today by calling 706-342-7000! But, that’s not all! The Spa at the James Madison is also hostin’ a Girls Night Out for everyone on October 21 from 5 p.m. til 8 p.m. with complimentary mini spa services, refreshments, raffles and free bone density testing and blood pressure screens done by the Morgan Memorial Mammography Department! Also we can all meet Dr. Erin Mayfield, Madison’s newest gynecologist! Dr. Mayfield has a practice in Conyers and is gonna have a part time practice in Madison within the next couple of months with an office at the James Madison Spa! How perf is that?
Hey a speakin’ of Morgan Memorial Hospital, Megan Morris wanted me to tell all y’all that they’re gonna be offerin’ a limited number of free mammograms to qualifying women during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October! Also Morgan Memorial is kickin’ off its Relay for Life fundraisin’ next week with a $5 jewelry sale Monday, Oct. 4 from 7 a.m. til 6 p.m. at the hospital in the TCU Dining Room. The Madison Morgan Cultural Center has got it goin’ on y’all! October is flat filled with fun events! First off on Tuesday, Oct. 12 all soccer fans and players are gonna have to head over to see the independent film Pelada about two college soccer stars who travel the world findin’ the game! It starts at 7 p.m. and is only $5! On Wednesday, Oct. 13 it’s a live performance by Giwayen Mata, a dance, percussion and vocal group that will bring Africa to life for our students. It all begins at 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.! There’s a bunch more goin’ on so y’all keep watchin’ this column or visit the Cultural center’s website at www.mmcc-arts.org or call the Cultural Center at 706-342-4743! Hey and I flat can’t wait for the Chili Cookoff this Saturday Oct. 2 in Town Park! Oh my Gosh y’all! The fabulous country and bluegrass band Edens Edge is gonna be playin’ durin’ the cook-off Saturday beginnin’ at 2 p.m.! Y’all! This band is like FAMOUS! They’ve opened for star country performers like Ronnie Milsap and Randy Travis! Plus this year they became members of the Big Machine record label along with stars like Taylor Swift! This is gonna be super fab! I’ll see all y’all there at the Chili Cookoff in Town Park! Anyhow, the Chili Cookoff is gonna be THE PLACE TO BE!
