Renowned teacher commends school system leaders
To the Editor:
Twenty-five years in local classrooms, mother of four locally educated children and grandmother to four currently enrolled grandchildren, I am devastated by the negativity shown lately toward the Morgan County School System. Difficult decisions have been required of system leaders and have been accomplished after research, thought and prayer. I commend our leaders who withstood commentary, kept focus and did what was right to preserve our school system’s quality education. The education of our youth is the continuing focus and our success is envied by visiting school districts.
Undeniably, MCMS has had unfortunate and unforeseen leadership challenges this year. However, its faculty has continued to provide a positive learning environment and quality education of the students. Our successes are the result of support and leadership from Superintendent Ralph Bennett, Interim Principal / Assistant Superintendent Debra White, Assistant Principal Patti Baldwin, Assistant Superintendent Sarah Burbach and our Board of Education members. I publicly express my deep appreciation to each for the unwavering commitment shown to our students, the school faculty and our community.
Consequently, the MCMS Governance Council, composed of MCMS faculty representatives, community leaders and parent representatives have spent hours reviewing resumes, interviewing candidates and reflecting on the needs of Morgan County Middle School leadership. Unanimously they selected Mrs. Lydia Norburg as their recommendation for incoming principal. We are excited that she will join us in our community and on our campus in the near future. “One Morgan” is the philosophy and positive attitude that benefits our students, promotes our community and binds us into a continuing record of excellence in Morgan County Schools. Welcome aboard Mrs. Norburg and know that we are pleased you are coming home!
