Two vans of food for Caring Place
To the Editor:
Please allow us to take this method to thank the United States Postal Service, the city mail carriers, the rural mail carriers of Morgan County and especially the people of Morgan County for their participation in the annual Postal Service food Drive. It was an overwhelming success, completely filling two vans floor to ceiling with non-perishable food items.
The generosity of people in this county is just amazing. The Caring Place has been open every Friday except major holidays for over 15 years. When the economy took its downward spin people who had supported the food bank for all these years became even more generous, knowing that if times had become more difficult for themselves it was even more difficult for others in the community. They took the steps to ensure that their neighbors, all of their neighbors, would have a place to go for food. It really does speak to the goodness of the heart.
The Caring Place is an all-volunteer organization. We are very fortunate that our facility is rent-free. We conduct an annual yard sale each Fall (August 11), the profits from which cover our utility and insurance costs. This enables us to ensure that all monies donated to us are used for the purchasing of food. All other funding is derived from voluntary contributions and the receiving of grants. We now average over 160 families coming for food each week.
Our sincere thanks to you all.
