We had a nice holiday. I like to have family to come.
There’s no need for me to mention about dry grass. I know that so many of you can say the same thing. We have had one shower that didn’t last long. Some people talked of lots of rain and even hail. We didn’t see that. We don’t have a garden.
Fact is we haven’t had one in several years. Neither of us would feel like working it or gathering it and then canning or freezing. What little that we use at this point we just buy it. It is not as good. But I suppose that I have eaten enough good fresh corn cooked in a black frying pan to do me the rest of my life.
That was added with red slices of tomato on the edge of the plate with some of the juice oozing onto the corn. It makes me hungry to think about it. But when I want some corn like that I go to Ingles to get a frozen roll of corn that has been cooked in a frying pan with cracked pepper. That is good. Not like home grown but it is a good substitute.
We have rabbits that come in our backyard in the late afternoon. One day I was totally shocked when a large fat armadillo came from the tall grass to eat some smaller grass. I had never seen one that large and it was I the daytime. After that one the same morning I saw one in front of the shelter eating. Then today Monday that was one on the front lawn when I carried the dog out. The dog forgot what I carried her out for and took chase after the armadillo, they can really run fast. They dig up our yard all of the time. Besides these animals we have deer like most everyone else including people in town. I know a girl that had her car damaged by a deer right there in town.
But there was a deer that was eating in our backyard. After a while it went near a small building and lay down to chew its food. That was amazing! It was just outside my window!
