James Dennis Darnell Sr., 65, of Newborn passed away Monday, July 23, 2012. He was born in Clayton to the late James and Mary Brown Darnell on October 14, 1946. He worked primarily in automotive repair. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Church of the Now. He enjoyed his grandchildren, tractors, cars, the beach and tinkering. He also enjoyed gardening and would give away his vegetables. Mr. Darnell had a love for farming.
He is survived by his wife Gwen Darnell and children, Jay Darnell and Kim, Jason Luke Darnell and Cheryl and Molly Denise Pickens and Timothy; his grandchildren Callie Darnell, Destiny Darnell, James Pickens, Levi Darnell, Evan Pickens, Ethan Pickens and Savanna Darnell; his two sisters Glenda Worley and Roy and Ilean Darnell Taylor and James.
The family received friends on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The funeral service was held at 12 noon at A. E. Carter Funeral Home Chapel. Interment took place in the Buckhead City Cemetery.
