The Madison Planning and Development Department has been in discussions with developers who are looking to put more restaurants along Eatonton Road, Planning Director Monica Callahan announced Monday at a city council meeting.
About 4.7 acres of land next to Zaxby’s, formally owned by John Bostwick, is being considered for one to three restaurants by developer Ron Anderson, Callahan said.
Anderson could not be reached for comment by press time, but Callahan said several of those restaurants will likely be fast food chains.
A separate development could also turn the defunct Shell Service Station into a Steak 'n Shake. Abe Abouhamdan, an engineer working with developer Ben Carter, said he plans to submit formal plans within a month.
“We are happy that businesses are looking at us again,” said City Manager David Nunn, adding that the new developments will bring more jobs, more taxes and more visitors.
