Phillips home after visiting 22 states
Jean and Buddy Phillips are home after a 22-state tour. They went to Lake Tahoe, Nevada and to California. They saw the giant Redwoods. Fact is they drove through Oregon. They went along the Oregon Coast. They went to Red Lodge, Montana to see the Jim Youngs who spend the summer there. In winter they live at Morgan Estates. At Great Salt Lake they saw two lightning strikes at the same time. There it was also a very beautiful sunset. At Virginia City, Nevada they saw where Bonanza was filmed. At Fourth Ward it was all 1800s except they did have running water for bathrooms. They had a wonderful trip. They went in their car this time instead of their camper. They didn’t have to hook up and unhook as with the camper. They were free to get the luggage and just go in for the night. They were very comfortable in the car riding but as with all of us, there’s no place like home. There is no bed and no pillow like the one that we have at home.

Almedia Smith had a painful fall at Walmart Friday afternoon. She was trying to walk because there were no riding buggies. I don’t know what happened but she is uncomfortable. I hope that you feel better soon Almedia. I know that I go there and there won’t be a buggy. That is a big store. Someone that is crippled can’t half get about. If there is one available they are nice to get it to you.
Lilly Denning has a birthday August 30. Happy birthday to you Lilly! She is the great-granddaughter of the Rassey Smiths.
Happy birthday to John Wade! Sunday Leigh, David, Elise and Claire Coberly, Kennon Howell, Rebekah, Ryan, Ava and Sam Saltik helped him celebrate. I know that all of you enjoyed being together helping to celebrate John’s birthday.
Barry Clower visited Rassey and Edna Smith Friday afternoon. He is from Greensboro.
Tommy and Judy Lawrence visited Betty and Macon Moore Sunday afternoon.
The Buckhead Baptist Church Homecoming is September 9. Clean-up day is September 9. Mark this date so that you will have it in mind. This is always a special time.
George and Laura Lohr are home after being in Colorado for three months. Their daughter Elizabeth and her family live out there. George had read in a farm magazine about a boat that had been sunk in the Missouri River in 1853. It was dug up and made a museum. This was at Kansas City.
In the museum there were canned goods, china and all sorts of things. In old days they went up and down the river stocking stores as they went. Laura said that it was all so interesting. Some pickles were opened and they were still good after all these years. They said that in Missouri, Kansas, Iowa and Colorado that these states had a very bad drought. Whatever these states produce will be very high this winter. We have so much to be thankful for here.
Almedia Smith was so thankful to all who brought her flowers and a card. That’s nice to be thought of when you have been hurt as she was in her fall.
Rassey Smith’s cousin has ovarian cancer. She is getting treatment now. She lives in Greenback, Tenn. She is Jo Kimbrell. That treatment can be life saving.
My husband was thankful for the nice card that was given to him by Felicia and Leon Williams for his birthday on August 15. He got several. Our pastor Bill Ricketts always sends one. I don’t see some of the funny cards that I used to see. And there are some that are plain out unfit to send.
I went to the funeral service of Mark Roling. He was a fine Christian man. I send my sympathy to his family.
The Lake Oconee Baptist Chapel had a singing Sunday night. On recent Sundays the Lord has blessed in adding six new members to the fellowship.
We have really enjoyed pears this year. I fix my husband a fruit plate at night for supper. We use 15-25 bananas a week. We eat grapes and usually two bags of apples weekly. We do this along with a regular diet of other foods. Consumer Reports says that bananas helps keep the blood pressure good and ours surely is. But we enjoy the bananas.
