Margaret Pegram Shields
Margaret Pegram Shields, 80 of Buckhead, passed away peacefully Friday, Sept. 7, 2012 at Madison Health and Rehab, a nursing home in Georgia. Mrs. Shields was born November 9, 1931 to Troy L. and Edna B. Pegram in northwest Guilford County, North Carolina, where she grew up on the farm. She was valedictorian of her class at Stokesdale High School. She rose in business management to the secretary of Dr. Grabow Pipe Co. and was the first female executive in the National Association of Tobacco Distributors. Later she was the accountant for several companies including Potpourri Press and Fresh Market. She lived, except for the last seven years in Greensboro, where she was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Shields is survived by daughter Kathleen S. Brodie and husband Hugh of Buckhead and son, Grady L. Shields and wife Patricia of Raleigh; grandchildren Joseph and Claire Shields of Edenton; step-grandchildren Steven Brodie of San Francisco, Calif., Maria Gonzalez of Plantation, Fla., Erik Brodie of Baca Raton, Fla., sister Nancy P. Cox and husband Dan of Greensboro; six brothers Troy L. Pegram and wife Shirley of Raleigh, Raymond D. Pegram and wife Leta of Greensboro, Melvin G. Pegram and wife Linda of Penhook, Vir., Charles N. Pegram and wife Carol of Hillsborough, Stanley D. Pegram of Fayetteville and Mark A. Pegram and wife Jill of Greensboro. She was predeceased by her parents, sister Doris P. Baker of Greensboro and former husband James Leon Shields of Greensboro.
Memorial services will begin with visitation at 2 p.m. followed by the service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15 at Bethel United Methodist Church, 8424 Haw River Road, Oak Ridge, NC 27310.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Bethel United Methodist Church at the address above.
