Last week, the Morgan County Cross Country team competed in the 2012 Mountain Eagle invitational. The Invitational was hosted by the Habersham Central High School Cross Country team, and over 20 teams competed in the three events.
The first race of the day was the Junior Varsity Boys 5K. Five runners from Morgan County competed in this event. Dillon Riedlinger finished 12th overall with a time of 22 minutes flat. Nathan Lundy, the second runner for Morgan County to finish the race, came in with a time of 23 minutes and 2 seconds. Overall, the JV Boys team came in ninth place amongst the teams.
The Varsity Boys 5K and the Varsity Girls 5K were run simultaneously, so over 300 runners were competing at the same time for the third race of the day.
Among the six girls to compete for Morgan County in the Varsity Girls 5K, Yakira Chapman finished first with a time of 27 minutes and 24 seconds. The average time for the girls in their 5K was 32 minutes and 30 seconds.
Zach Stone finished fifth overall in the Varsity Boys 5K race. His time, 18 minutes and 39 seconds, was less than a minute behind the first runner to complete the race. Jeremy Craft and Gladwin Kreimann came in together for 24th and 25th places with times of 19 minutes and 34 seconds and 19 minutes and 35 seconds, respectively. The Varsity Boys came in sixth as a team for their 5K race.
Next Saturday, Sept. 15, the cross country team will compete in the Sixth Annual Eagle Invitational to be held in Commerce, hosted by East Jackson High School.
