Meet Stephanie, new writer

Hello! I am excited about joining the staff here at the Morgan County Citizen. It has been several years since I last wrote for a weekly newspaper and I look forward to meeting the citizens of this vibrant county and learning about what makes it great.
I have enjoyed antiquing in Madison in the past and have a friend of the family who would hop on his motorcycle, drive up to Madison for an ice cream cone, and then turn around and drive home. Whenever my mother visits me she drives through downtown Madison to take in the beautiful historic homes in the area. We often talk about what a beautiful drive it is through Morgan County with all of the rolling greenery.
I have lived in Northeast Georgia since the fall of 1997 when I moved to Athens to attend the University of Georgia. I have studied English, education, and journalism and appreciate how the written word can teach those who read it.
My second Saturday in Athens I met Jimmy who is now my husband of 13 years. We have lived on the east side of Athens all of that time. He is a GM World Class Technician with a total of 18 years of experience, 16 of which have been earned at Heyward Allen Motor Company.
Jimmy and I have a 2-year-old son who loves bikes of all kinds: motorcycles, bicycles, tricycles (remember, he’s 2). Recently he has decided that running around and screaming at the top of his lungs is his second favorite thing in life. We also have two dogs who are a bit on the lazy side, which suits me just fine as I spend much of my energy playing with my baby.
We attend church at Green Acres Baptist in Athens, which is where my husband and I met and where we were married. Our son was dedicated in that church, as well.
My family is originally from Kentucky. We moved to Georgia when my father’s job transferred his department in the 1980s and have loved living here. My parents live in Macon while my older brother and his family live in Warner Robbins. My younger brother and his family live near Statham.
My mother-in-law lives in Athens while one sister-in-law lives in Savannah with her family and the other sister-in-law lives in Woodbury.
All-in-all, we have family spread across the entire state, so we get to visit many of them during a given year. One of my favorite places to visit is Helen. My husband and I honeymooned there and have been back several times for day trips.
At this time I am most looking forward to watching my son take in the coming holidays. I think this will be one of the first ones that he remembers and I am eager to see what catches his attention.
Please feel free to drop me a line. I may be reached via e-mail at reportermcc@gmail.com or by phone at (706) 342-7440.
