BOE working on literacy grants for middle, high schools

By Kathryn Schiliro
Managing Editor

School system administration is working to acquire Striving Readers grants for Morgan County Middle and High schools.
The federally funded grants–through the U.S. Department of Education's (DOE) Striving Readers Comprehensive Literacy Program–allocated more than $25.6 million to Georgia last year, the most of any state whose schools applied for the funding.
Both Morgan County Primary and Elementary schools received these grants last year, 2010-2011, and the DOE extended the grant to higher grades this year, according to school system administration.
Administration is currently working with the schools to determine how technology may fit into the program before submitting applications for the grant money.
Applications are due in December.

Printed in the September 13 edition.
