The Morgan County Cross Country team competed in the 6th Annual Eagle Run Invitational last Saturday in Commerce. Over 70 teams competed in the event, which was hosted by East Jackson High School.
Morgan County competed in three events this weekend, the JV Boys 5K, the Varsity Girls 5K, and the Varsity Boys 5K.
This week, the Morgan County JV team was lead by eighth grader Dalton Shaw, who ran the race in 19 minutes and 17seconds. Shaw placed fourth overall in the race, finishing only 40 seconds after the first place runner. This was the first time this season that Shaw ran for the cross country team. Five other JV boys ran the 5K, and the team ended up placing ninth in the competition.
Freshman Yakira Chapman finished the Girls 5K in 24 minutes and 45 seconds, which was a personal record for her. She was the fastest of the varisty girls to compete last Saturday. Anna Nolan came in with a time of 26 minutes and 37 seconds.
Again, Zack Stone led the varsity boys, finishing the race sixth in 17 minutes and 18 seconds. Gladwin Kreimann ran the race in 18 minutes and 14 seconds, and Jeremy Craft in 18 minutes and 15 seconds. Overall nine Morgan County athletes ran in the Varsity 5K. The team came in seventh place, which was one position lower on the scoreboard than last week’s ranking.
The next meet for the Cross Country team will be the Aubrae Gunderson Invitational, hosted by Heritage High School in Conyers. Over 60 teams will compete in the 10 races at the Georgia International Horse Park. The meet will take place on September 29th.
