The Morgan County Middle School Bullpups played their fifth game of the season this week against the Putnam County War Eagles.
They were outdone by the War Eagles, ultimately losing the game 0-21. This was the Bullpups’ second loss of the season.
“It was a tough game,” said Head Coach Stacy Webb.
Morgan County received the ball to begin the first half of the game but were unable to capitalize on the possession.
From the very beginning, the teams were evenly matched, and neither could pull ahead in the first two quarters of the game. At halftime the score was still tied at 0.
Putnam struck first in the second half of the game. They scored on a 40-yard touchdown run, making the score 0-7.
After trading possessions a few times with Putnam County, the War Eagles were able to score again late in the fourth quarter, expanding their lead on the Bullpups to 0-14.
Morgan County had a good drive going in the final minutes of the game, but the War Eagles were able to intercept the ball and run it back to their end zone, scoring the last touchdown of the game with about three minutes left in the fourth quarter.
The final score of the game was 0-21.
“Our kids played hard,” commented Coach Webb after the game.
“Putnam has the best record,” said Coach Webb. “We may see them again in the playoffs.”
According to Coach Webb, the Morgan County Bullpups are now third in the league.
So far this season, the Bullpups’ record is 2-3. The only other loss so far was against Youth Middle during the first game of the season.
Next week, the Bullpups play Social Circle for their last game of the regular season. The game will take place at 4:30 p.m. in Social Circle next Wednesday.
