Historic Preservation Commish hears residential requests

One design review was withdrawn while one conceptual review received feedback during the recent meeting of the Madison Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).
Christy Fields was present to share details about a proposed parking pad that she and her husband, Dail, would like to install at 742 Billups Avenue. Fields withdrew her design.
Michelle Bechtel requested a conceptual review of two townhouses in a 6,000-square-foot brick building on Jefferson Street.
Vice Chair Joe Smith said that Bechtel’s design was “compositionally complete.” He noted that the design was contextual to the historic district without being historically accurate.
Commission members also looked over a recent administrative approval of a non-historic house located at 317 Pine St. that involved installing shutters and relocating porch steps.
A recent project approval for 328 E. Washington Stret received the OK to change from shingles to roll roofing. HPC Consultant Ken Kocher noted this was “a minor change.”
