Council addresses city charter, relationships with staff at retreat

The Madison City Council met in Athens last Thursday at the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission (NEGRC).
Jim Dove, Executive Director of NEGRC, said that this meeting was more of a preliminary meeting in which they had an “open dialogue.”
“It was a good meeting,” he said. “We’ll probably follow-up in a couple of weeks with more visioning, long-range projects.”
Mayor Bruce Gilbert said that the retreat was a chance for the mayor and council to get away and discuss things such as the city’s charter as well as the responsibilities of mayor and council and their relationships with staff.
City Manager David Nunn said they reviewed their charter and talked in general about several items, including questions about committee chairs and the chair’s relationship with other committee members and staff, how to handle rumors about personnel and becoming more involved in the budgeting process.

Their next retreat is tentatively scheduled for Oct. 22.
