While the 2012 General Election didn't match 2008 numbers, nearly 74 percent of Morgan County voters participated in Tuesday’s General Election.
According to election officials, 9,064 of Morgan County’s 12,263 registered voters voted either on Tuesday or in the weeks leading up to the election.
For president, Republican Mitt Romney easily took Morgan County with 68 percent of the vote. Democrat Barack Obama, the incumbent, picked up 30 percent of the vote. Libertarian Gary Johnson picked up 1 percent.
In the District 25 Georgia State Senate contest between Republican Burt Jones, who defeated incumbent Johnny Grant in the Primary Election, and Democrat Darrell Black, Jones outpaced Black with 70 percent of the vote to Black’s 30 percent.
The majority of county voters also voted against the controversial, charter school Constitutional Amendment 1 question, 52 percent to 48 percent.
Election officials reported that 4,463 Morgan voters cast early ballots in the election.
