Last Saturday, the Morgan County High School basketball teams traveled to Augusta to take part in the Georgia/Carolina Scrimmage Games.
The girls won 52-31 against South Aiken High School. Freshman Sydney Nash led the team in scoring with 16 points. Alexis Brown, another freshman on the girls varsity team, came in a close second with 12 points during the game.
Head Coach Charlemagne Gibbons said that he is, “very proud of this young group’s effort and energy.”
“They came out and showed they are very capable even with the lack of experience.”
Unfortunately, the boys varsity team didn’t fare as well, losing to Keenan High School 61-64.
The team was ahead almost 10 points at halftime, but their scoring slowed in the second half.
“It was a great game for a scrimmage,” said Coach Gibbons.
Despite the loss, Coach Gibbons said that he, “came away very upbeat about the potential of this team.”
This Saturday, the varsity basketball teams will be playing at the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament at Berkamar High School in Lilburn. The girls will play at noon, and the boys will follow at 4 p.m.
