The Morgan County Marlins competed in the Walton Waves Turkey Splash last Saturday at Emory at Oxford.
“The meet was fun and the host team was very gracious,” said Andy Dunston, the coach of the Marlins’ swim team.
“The pool itself was 25 meters as opposed to the 25 yard pools we are used to swimming in, so it was a new experience for our swimmers.”
The difference in length didn’t appear to affect the swimmers’ performances negatively.
Morgan County came in first place in 25 of the 37 races that they competed in.
The standout members of the Marlins at the meet were Karalynn Clifton, Lauren Bernard, and Katie Marie Windham.
Clifton placed first in the 9-10 Girls 25-meter freestyle, the 25-meter backstroke, the 100-meter individual medley, the 25-meter breaststroke, and the 25-meter butterfly stroke.
Bernard came in first for the Girls 12 & Under 25-meter freestyle, the 100-meter freestyle, the 100-meter individual medley, and the 50-meter breaststroke.
And Windham won the Girls 15 & Over 50-meter freestyle, the 50-meter backstroke, the 200-meter freestyle, and the 200-meter individual medley.
“I am very happy with how our swimmers performed,” commented Dunston after the meet. “I look forward to more meets with the Walton County Waves swim team.”
The Marlins’ next swim meet will be the 23rd Annual Lanier Aquatics Winter Invitational, which will be held at the Frances Meadows Aquatic and Community Center in Gainesville. The meet will begin on November 30 and will go through December 2.
