The MCMS football and cheerleading programs held their annual banquet last Thursday at the middle school’s cafeteria to celebrate the football team’s 4-3 record.
To begin the evening, the cheerleaders were recognized for their season, both for their participation at the football games and for their competition season.
All of the members of the football team were presented with a certificate for completing the season, a medal, and a T-shirt, displaying the word “determination on the back.
“I’d like to thank these young men for the hard work they’ve done,” said head coach Stacy Webb. “You can be proud of your accomplishments this year.”
Special awards were granted to the players, who had displayed the greatest amount of talent or enthusiasm throughout the year.
Among those who received special recognition were Javis Benford, Paul Guderian, Justin Bryan, Willie Simmons, and Tremon Moore, all who were given a Bulldog Award.
Additionally, Jody McAlister, KeAndre Williams, and Malik Chapman were given defensive awards, while offensive awards were earned by Glenn Tolbert, Austin Scanland, Dalton Cole and Lamarcus Stokes.
Caleb Fossum won the Most Improved award, and MJ Webb won the MVP award for his performances as tight end and fullback for the 2012 season.
“I wish I could give awards to all the young men; they deserve it,” said Webb.
Finally, Webb ended the night by thanking all of the parents and volunteers, who helped throughout the season.
“Thank you parents for supporting these fine young men and women. It makes my job a lot easier working with [you].”
