Utilities appeal assessments

By Stephanie Johns

Chief Appraiser Chuck Anglin said that CSX, AT&T, and BellSouth have appealed their utility values to the state.
“We have nothing to do with that,” he said.
Board member Marcus Schuchs agreed and explained that the state arrives at those values.
Anglin later explained that Morgan County has been informed about the appeals and can still tax the utilities. The taxation process will be done a bit differently until the appeals process is completed.
Anglin then noted that the Georgia Department of Revenue (GDR) sent them a revised value for Central Georgia EMC that is $200,000 less than the other value that GDR sent them previously.
He later shared that the valuation went from $4.9 million to $4.7 million.
“We just have to accept the value,” he said, adding that the state sets that value, too.
