Lois Wilbanks Harper

Lois Wilbanks Harper, 87, of Rutledge died Thursday, December 6, 2012. She was born September 25, 1925 in Maysville. She was the last remaining child of Oliver Doyle and Lula Hooper Wilbanks. She was married to Harry Harper Sr. who preceded her in death. She was retired from Wellington Puritan Mills but continued to work as a columnist for the Madisonian and the Morgan County Citizen until recently. In her column Mrs. Harper often wrote about growing up in the country and life’s simple pleasures like “porch sitting.” Mrs. Harper was an active member of Rutledge Baptist Church and the Morgan County Senior Center. She was very outgoing. She loved her family, home and church family. She also enjoyed her friends at the senior center and her new friends at Madison Health and Rehab. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Mrs. Harper is survived by her two children, Betty Edwards (Dean) of Rutledge and John W. Harper (Chong Suki) of Elgin, South Carolina; grandchildren, James Preston Jr. (Robin), Stephen Preston (Sandru Stewart) and Sandra Harper; great grandchildren are Summer, Jimmy and Savanna Preston and Trenton Preston. Although not great grandchildren Mrs. Harper loved Sandra’s children, Britianny Stewart, Cansas Tanner and River Rogers. Mrs. Harper was preceded in death by her husband Harry Harper Sr., a son Harry Harper Jr. and a granddaughter Julie Marie Preston. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Herman Wilbanks, Robert Wilbanks, Stonewall Wilbanks and Wade Wilbanks, and two sisters, June Jeanette Wilbanks and Stella Wilbanks Lewis.
The funeral service for Mrs. Harper was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 8 at Rutledge Baptist Church. The interment followed at the Rutledge City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Rutledge Baptist Church or to Madison Health and Rehab.
