Getting a reading on the season

The Morgan County High School (MCHS) wrestling team took on Oconee County last Tuesday in its first dual against a region opponent and won 49-24.
The meet was originally scheduled to include Monticello as well, but they backed out at the last minute.
This week saw the return to the mat for some of Morgan County’s key starters from last year, including Stewart Spence, Austin Ross and Bailey Ross, all of whom won in their respective weight classes.
Winners for Morgan County against Oconee were Clayton Beardon (major decision), Luke Biscoglia (decision), Jacob McAlister (pin), Timothy Leclair (pin), D’Monta Wright (pin), Carter Shultz (pin), Austin Ross (forfeit), Stewart Spence (pin) Bailey Ross (pin).
Despite some difficulties so far in the season, Coach John Robbins sees the team’s performance against Oconee as indicative of how the season, as a whole, will play out.
“It was a real boost for our kids to go over and beat a very tough Oconee team, who finished fourth last year in AAA while we finished fourth in AA,” said Robbins.
“They are being mentioned as legitimate contenders this year in AAA again, so that is a pretty good barometer for us.”
