Mayor Gilbert apologizes

By Stephanie Johns

It takes a big man to admit to his mistakes. It takes a bigger man to admit to his mistakes in front of a city council, city staff, members of the public, and the press.
Mayor Bruce Gilbert began the January meeting of the Madison City Council with an apology.
“The last meeting in December I allowed someone to talk directly to one council member and that was wrong,” he said. “I apologize to the council and the councilman involved.”
He reminded those present that no name calling was allowed. Also, both members of the public and the council speak to him during the meeting.
Gilbert added that there would be time limits during the public hearing portions of the meeting and that City Attorney Joe Reitman would handle the timing of that.
“With that I look forward to having a better meeting the rest of this year,” he said.
