More than $5,000 stolen from Family Dollar
Staff Reports
A Madison woman was arrested on Wednesday, Jan. 9 after she allegedly stole more than $5,000 from Madison's Family Dollar Store on Eatonton Road.
According to Madison Police Department reports, Virginia Brooking Torbrush, 49, Madison, was arrested after she allegedly told her supervisor at the store that she had been taking money from the store's deposits before submitting the deposits to a bank.
Reports state that Torbrush contacted a loss prevention manager with the store to tell him that she had taken the money to help with a grand child. Torbush told a Madison Police Department officer that she confessed to the alleged thefts "because it was bothering her and she wanted to make things right."
Reports indicate that the thefts had occurred since Dec. 29, 2012. The loss prevention manager told police that deposits had been delivered late to the bank which had prompted him to initiate an investigation.
