Three students from Morgan County Middle School (MCMS) were selected to perform in the Sixth Grade Honor Chorus at the Georgia Music Educators Association held mid-February.
MCMS Choral Director Jared K. Register, MM, shared that Victoria Tiller, Dakota Guinn, and Anna Taylor Parker were selected to represent their school based on “outstanding musicianship, ensemble skills, and exceptional daily classroom behavior.”
“These three students were given an opportunity they will take with them for the rest of their lives,” he shared. “There is something very powerful about ensemble musicianship and my hope is that they continue striving for these types of experiences as they mature as musicians.”
He added that there were about 150 sixth graders in two choirs, one conducted by Darren Dailey and the other by Emily Floyd, at the two-day clinic held on the Tifton Campus of the University of Georgia.
During their time at the clinic the students “attended extensive rehearsals over the two days and closed out their trip with a Saturday concert, including one combined piece with over 300 students on stage between the two choirs,” he noted.
