The Morgan County baseball program’s C-Team continued their season last week with a 6-14 loss to the Eastside Eagles on Wednesday before losing to the Oconee Warriors 2-3 but beating the Salem Seminoles 19-11 during last Saturday’s Oconee Diamond Day.
The Dogs kept a tied 4-4 game against Eastside through the sixth inning, but, in the top of the seventh, Eastside pulled ahead by scoring ten runs.
Unfortunately, Morgan County wasn’t able to rally in the seventh, scoring only two runs and finishing 6-14.
“The runs were a combination of walks, mental errors, and hits,” said C-Team coach Dusty Hawkins about Eastside’s runs in the seventh. “Overall I feel we played well. We just have to cut down on walks and errors.”
The first opponent for Morgan County during Oconee’s Diamond Day was Oconee, who beat the Dogs 3-2.
Again, Morgan County held a tie until the seventh inning, when Oconee’s single run ended the game.
During the second game, which was played against Salem, the Dogs’ bats came heated up, allowing Morgan County to win 19-11.
“In both games the team showed improvement on bunting and base running,” said Hawkins. “Defensively we played well and looked better on our tandems and cuts.”
Less than ideal weather conditions affected the C-Team’s games in Oconee.
“The weather was a big factor in the game due to the extreme cold and wind,” said Coach Hawkins. “We had heaters in the dugout. However, by the end of the game the players from both teams looked like Popsicles. Way to cold for baseball.”
The early season is allowing the C-Team to perform one of its functions within the Morgan County baseball program.
“A lot of players are getting experience on the mound,” said Hawkins. “This is one goal of the C-Team to provide pitching experience so when they play JV and Varsity they are more prepared.”
Yesterday, the C-Team played Monticello on the road. Their next game will be a rematch against Eastside, this time in Covington, at 5:00.
