Rallying the students, going back to school

As the start of another new school year draws nearer, the Morgan County Family Connection is gearing up for its fifth annual Back-to-School Rally this Saturday, August 4 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in downtown Madison.Â

The rally, which was started to introduce Morgan County students and their families to the resources available to them. The rally, which will kick off the school year and open with an address by Superintendent Stan DeJarnett, has drawn crowds of up to 200 in previous years.Â

“There’s no cost. It’s free to attend so we get a really big turnout,â€ says Karen Robertson of Family Connection, who is organizing the event.Â

Currently, there are aroung 25 organizations slated to attend, touting their services and offering information and answers about the upcoming year.Â

“One of the newest additions to our community, Georgia Perimeter, as well Georgia Military College will be there,â€ says Robertson, and groups like the local library, health department and NAACP chapter will be joining the crowd as well.Â

A mobile computer lab from the Northeast Georgia Regional Development Center as well as a live remote from radio station WYTH will be featured and free hot dogs, drinks and an inflatable moon walk promise to add to the fun.Â

The Kiwanis Club will offer snow cones and school supplies and other door prizes will be given away all day.Â
