The Lady Dogs picked up a big region win Friday night in Madison, knocking off North Oconee 56-48.
The team jumped up 16-11 going into the second quarter and led 30-24 at the half. The Lady Titans hung around outscoring the Lady Dogs 10-6 in the third quarter to make the score 36-34 before Morgan County pulled away in the final period.
"We played really good," said Lady Dog Head Coach Kathy Hubbard. "I was really proud of them."
Kiasa Tiller led the Lady Dogs with 23 points in the win. Some of those points came down the stretch, helping the team secure the win.
Ieshia Williams had a good night with 12 points. Alexis Cathey and Sharde Massey each had six and Jasmine Davis added five.
Saturday: Putnam 49 Morgan 36
The Lady Dogs gave Putnam County a good effort Saturday night, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Lady War Eagles.
"We played hard, we just weren't scoring," said Hubbard. "We just couldn't get the momentum."
The Lady Dogs fell behind some early. They were down 26-17 at the half. By the start of the fourth quarter the Lady War Eagles had pushed their lead to 39-26, a deficit Morgan County wasn't able to overcome.
The team will have a chance to turn things around this week. They played at Washington-Wilkes Tuesday night and Friday they will host Oglethorpe in the last scheduled Lady Dogs game at the current gym. The new gym is set to open before next season.
Following this week’s games, the team will begin preparations for region tournament play.
