Hockey players, weather, ski trips and more

James and Bettie Dyer celebrated their 21st anniversary on February 14. Beacon Heights Baptist Church crowned them as king and queen for 2008 on Valentine’s day at their banquet on February 14. I didn’t realize that we lived next door to a king and queen. Congratulations! James wasn’t feeling too well for the event. He’d had surgery on his nose that day. James, I hope that things will soon be back to normal and that you can feel better.
Johnny Ray Breedlove hasn’t felt well lately. I hope that he will soon regain his strength.
I didn’t realize that we had a three-time National Hockey League player living in our community. Tom Lysiak was a leader with the Flames for six seasons before playing for the Chicago Blackhawks. Needless to say he was quite a good player wherever he went. He came quite a distance before he got to the Real Buckhead. He hailed from High Praise, Alberta about a four and a half-hour drive to the nearest large city of Edmonton.
I know nothing about the game of hockey but may I add that I am glad that Tom and his family came our way to live. As to the fact that he likes to fish and hunt, he is in a good area for that.
We had one and two-tenths inches of rain on Sunday night. It was an afternoon and night of stormy weather with some wind damage in places but not here.
We can go to town and not see too many people that we know. When we were there one day we saw Almedia Smith and Billy Hinesley in the parking lot. Then I saw Edna Smith in the store. A few minutes later there was Barbara Ashburn. I had not seen Barbara in years. It was good to see all of them.
Rassey and Edna Smith are well but they have some family members that have not felt well lately. I hope that all of you will soon be better.
Buckhead Baptist Church will have their banquet on February 23. For information ask a church member.
There is still sickness from colds and flu that is going around. I hope that you will all be well soon.
Grace Bible Church will have their singing on the fourth Thursday. You are invited.
The Lake Oconee Baptist Chapel took in a very good sum from their banquet to go on their building fund on Saturday night.
Next Sunday, February 24 the Lake Oconee Baptist Chapel will have a singing on Sunday night. You are invited.
The youth group at the Lake Oconee Baptist Chapel will go to ski on Friday to Sky Valley.
Please help me with your news. Something might seem not newsworthy to you but to other people it might be of interest. I couldn’t possibly call everyone in this area. If you make one call to me at 706-342-0266 that is helpful. Let’s keep our community covered. I remember what an Atlanta paper advertised that it covers Dixie like the dew. I know that our area couldn’t do that but we can keep on keeping on. Your help is appreciated.
