The Lady Dogs soccer team ran into an Athens Academy team in rare form last Tuesday in Madison, the result was a 9-1 defeat at the hands of the Lady Spartans, but not for lack of effort on the part of Morgan County.
"We really gave it our all, they were just the better team," said Lady Dogs Head Coach Jessica Ward. "We're going to treat it as a learning experience to help us get better."
The lone Morgan County goal in the loss was scored by Elizabeth Newton.
The team played Tuesday at Eastside where they looked to turn things around. The ladies currently stand at 1-3.
They will be back at home next Tuesday when they host nearby Social Circle.
Ward said her team is working on pulling together and building their team chemistry as they work to get all 11 players involved on every play.
The team will look to iron out any early season kinks before they get into the all-important region component of their schedule which gets going at full force after intercession, but the next region match-up is a trip to North Oconee next Thursday, March 6.
