The Lady Pups soccer team had a tough draw in their opener, they were charged with the task of taking on a tough Malcom Bridge Middle School team last Wednesday in Madison, eventually falling 2-0 in the contest.
"We didn't play them last year," said Lady Pup Head Coach Katie Greenway. "I think it opened our girls' eyes about how we want to play."
Despite the level of competition, the local team kept things close, getting two or three good runs at the goal, threatening to close the gap.
"We did really well for our first game," Greenway said. "It looks like we have a strong offense and defense this year."
Greenway said she was especially pleased by what she saw last week at the forward positions. She said Griffin Gardner, Savannah Hill and Sara Bell Taylor all had great games.
The team travels to Oglethorpe for a game Wednesday. Their next home game is this Friday when they host St. Joseph's.
