Dylan Peppers, Roderick Rhodes and Carter Shultz combined for a no-hitter last Tuesday as the Diamond Pups pummeled Greene County 15-0 last Wednesday for their first of two wins on the week.
"We rebounded very nicely from a tough defeat last week," said Bullpup Head Coach Mike McSherry. "We were able to get a look at some of our backups and younger players, and I was very pleased with how well they performed."
The game lasted only four innings due to the 15-run rule, but that still left plenty of time for Morgan batters to find success at the plate.
After a quiet first inning, the Pups broke the game wide-open in the second, loading up the bases and getting big hits from Andrew Couch and Stewart Spence to drive the runners home. With the Pups' pitching performance, that production alone would have been enough for a win.
The Pups got off to a good start in their 5-4 win on Friday at Social Circle, scoring four two-out runs in the first inning.
Bullpup first baseman Fred Williams got a clutch two-out hit to in the inning to drive in Alex Harris. The Pups then got consecutive hits from Dylan Peppers, Dylan Davis and Stewart Spence to bring in three more.
Dylan Peppers went five innings for the Pups allowing just one run. Carter Shultz came in to close the game out in the final inning. Despite giving up some runs late to Social Circle, Shultz was able to close the game out for the Pups, allowing them to pick up the 5-4 win.
"This was great win for us today," McSherry said. "Dylan [Peppers] was fantastic on the mound and our defense made the plays when we needed them. The effort and attitude was light-years ahead of last week, and it showed on the scoreboard."
The team hosted Greene on Tuesday and travels to play Youth on Friday for a big showdown. Youth came into this week posting a 5-0 record. For their next home game the Pups will have a rematch with Youth on Thursday, April 3.
