“Sunday morning dawned sunny, but cool and balmy”

By  Mae Buice

As Easter weekend began we thought we’d have lovely weather, Friday and Saturday were beautiful and warm but Sunday morning dawned sunny but cool and balmy. I am grateful that it was not stormy weather and I have seen Easter weekends with terrible weather. Our Sunday services began with a delicious Easter breakfast at 9:30 a.m. prepared by our ladies. We opened services with the standard Easter songs, “He Lives,” etc. Then specials were sung with Nikki Higdon doing her “Teardrops of Love,” Russ Johnson and Betty King, “In Spite of the Storm,” and I did my version of “He is Not Dead.” The song service was very special and good on Sunday. Lou took his message from Matthew 28 and 1st Corinthians 15, giving us a beautiful message and I failed to get notes as my lap was full with Bailey and Olivia both wanting my lap, therefore no notes. But it was a great sermon with great response at the altar. We had a very successful egg hunt on Friday afternoon for the children of our neighborhood. We thank Stephanie Martin and Billie Jo Arnold for taking care of the details. I understand that we had around 40 children to take part.
We were glad to receive the news that Steve Barrett has regained consciousness. We do pray that he will again be able to use his legs and be as he was before his accident.
Betty and Cliff Walker enjoyed Betty’s sister Jane Rountree from Blairsville for the Easter holidays along with their daughter Dawn Walker. I’m sure all our church families had a table full of delicious food and all their loved ones seated around the table.  I know we certainly did
One of my grandsons, Curtis Arwood along with his fiancé Elisha Taylor from Charlotte came in for a long weekend on Friday. On Saturday my other two grandsons, Chuck Arwood also from Charlotte and Trae Holmes from Conyers came to spend the night and it was like old times when as youngsters we would enjoy the three of them together. These three are the same age, born on the same day, therefore have gown up together and are very close. On Sunday we were pleased to have the rest of the family to join us, most of them in our church service. Coming on Sunday morning was Gayle and Jimmy Holmes from Conyers, Jill Luciani from Cornelius, North Carolina, and our granddaughter, Susanne Bell and Bailey and Olivia, who took turns wanting to sit in my lap therefore the reason for no notes of Lou’s sermon.
Our Easter production went off really well on Saturday night. The cast put on a great show with Tyler Ward playing the tragic part of the crucifixion of Jesus. We appreciate those that came out to attend his play, especially all the visitors. I believe all the seats were filled and some were standing. Betty King we appreciate all the hard work you did along with our costume manager, Alice Waddell making this a very successful program.
I want to stress the importance, especially to our seniors of giving information on the phone. Some of our seniors have had calls from what we’ll call “Scam Artists”. Please, if you get calls asking for personal information such as Social Security numbers or bank account numbers, do not give them out to these people.
Our baby dedication day will be coming up in the near future. At this time we have two young babies. A prospective date has been set for June 8. I have not been able to talk with one set of parents to confirm if this date is suitable for them. Any information you need, please call me.
There will be another fundraiser coming up in April to finish up small details in our Comans’ AWANA building. It will be donut sales on April 12. We are taking pre-orders if you would like to pre-order your donuts. See any of our ladies.
We were glad to have three of our service men with us yesterday. James Vanwhy and Billy Bridgeman have each completed tours of Iraq. Michael King will leave in the near future. Ronny Lawson is already in Iraq. We want to always remember our Military whether they are on active duty or not. God bless each of you and may God always protect you. Remember the Community Sing at Grace Bible Church on the 27. Happy birthday blessings for Rebecca Jenkins on March 27. And to little Lene Ekstrom on April 3 for Cy Easters on the 5.
Health Tip of the Week: Eat Yogurt it guards against ulcers, strengthens bones, helps to lower cholesterol, and supports your immune systems.
Until next week may the Lord bless you real good.
