News from Brownwood

By Margie Ward

Sunday morning a good attendance was present with some visitors. We always welcome our visitors and invite them to come back and be with us again as God leads. The Call to Worship, “Brethren, We have met to Worship.” Special music, “What a Lovely Name,” by Barbara Sims. Bro. Ron’s message, “Zeal for House of God,” Haggai 1: 1-15 and other scriptures. Little is known about Haggai; he was a prophet. He returned to Jerusalem after captivity, he urged the returned exiles to make the rebuilding of the temple a priority. The work began, alter built, and foundation laid; then opposition began. Haggai was persistent; God used him a lot in a short time. How do we let God use us? God shows mercy in time of judgment; we must listen when God speaks. God’s timing is not our timing; sometimes we try and get ahead of God. God told them it was time for the temple to be finished. He said consider your ways, start as an individual, set your hearts in the right direction. God holds everything in His hands; He knows how to shake us on our own foundation. God said, “I change not”. Our disobedience effects other people. We should show reverence to God. The people had fresh awareness of God’s power and purpose. God said, He will always be with us and He’s bigger than any of our problems. God’s desire is to walk with men and have a relationship with them. God values His creation.
