Hot weather, family reunions, anniversaries and more
By Mae Buice
Babies! What precious beings, what miracles. Sunday was our second Baby Dedication service of the year with loving parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles and special friends witnessing the event. The topic was two precious little girls, Little Miss Karrity Lane Sears, daughter of Kelly and Jamie Sears; and Little Miss Alegna Love Weathers, precious one of Kayla Bennett and Basil Weathers. Lou always has a most loving and touching dedication service. This week he used the topic “I’ll Fly Away” and the scripture Psalm 55:6, telling us we’ll get the wings we’ve always wanted. Get in a dangerous situation, lift your wings and get on out. Yes, we can do that if we are saved and it is our time to go. So often we’d love to fly away. The real solution is seeking refuge in God. His phone line is always open. We can only imagine what it will be when we step across and get a taste of the other side. We have to lead a life that is pleasing to Him. Strive to enter in.
Speaking and charging the parents of these two little girls, Lou used one of my favorite scriptures to get his point across to them, Proverbs 22:6. “Train up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it.
Our Christian love and sympathy goes to the family of Kevin Pope in the event of his sudden death on Friday.
We are planning a church-wide camping trip at the Carey Station Camping area on June 20 and 21. See Ramsey or Rusty for more details.
Sunday night, June 22 at 6 p.m. we will begin our Bible School for 2008. It will continue each night through Wednesday night beginning week nights at 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Neighborhood children, be sure to make this one of your “things to do” coming up soon.
We have several on our prayer list. I hesitate to list, afraid I’ll miss someone. David Bryans is in the hospital at this time awaiting surgery; Don Patterson is expecting surgery in the near future; Steve Barrett has been moved to Morgan Memorial Hospital; Charles Johnson was unable to attend service on Sunday; Curtis Baughcum recently had shoulder and arm surgery and is in a lot of pain; Rebecca Jenkins’ brother Mark recently had six-bypasses on his heart; Alice Waddell as well as myself are waiting for MRI and MRA results. So many are sick or lost loved ones. Place these on your prayer list and pray daily.
We had our annual Buice reunion this last weekend. The weather was HOT! But the crowd was good and active. We dedicated our reunions to our Aunt Naomi Powell of Madison and to Uncle Hubert and Aunt Doris Buice. I suppose we had around 100 in attendance. We had Stephen MacWilliams and his daughters, Tesa and Sarah with us along with Alfred and Maudie Buice from Ocala and Bellview, Florida. Alfred and Maudie will remain with us a few days.
We enjoyed the singing at the Crawfordville Auction Barn on Friday night. The crowd was off, but I understand there was another function going on at the high school, graduation. Thanks to those that came out especially to hear me sing. It makes my heart glad.
Martha Whited will be moving from our area I the near future. She’s a resident of the Blue Springs Community on Blue Springs Court. She has her house up for sale and will be moving to the Blairsville area to be near her children. She will be missed but we’ll surely keep in touch. You can contact Martha at 706-342-4859. If you’re interested in her house it’s located at 1060 Blue Springs Court. Call her for an appointment if you’d like to see the inside.
Anniversary blessings to Kelly and Billy Bridgeman on the 17. Happy birthday to Hunter Waddell on the 12, Sara McLendon on the 15, Cindy Morrow and Chase Sears on the 18.
Health tip of the week: Chili peppers! Wow-wee, they aid indigestion, will soothe a sore throat, clear your sinuses, combats cancer, and boost your immune system.
Until next week, may the Lord bless you real good.
