Naomi Dunn Self
Naomi Dunn Self, 73, of Madison died Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens. She was born June 2, 1935 to McKinely Dunn and Effie Chancey in Mack, Florida.
She worked as a waitress for many years before retiring.
Ms. Self is survived by two sons, Kenneth Woody and James Woody. She was preceded in death by a daughter Geneva O’Neal.
A memorial service was held Saturday morning, June 14, at Brownwood Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Swann officiating.

William R. Bowen
William R. Bowen, 72, of Madison died Thursday, June 12, 2008. He was born December 1, 1935 in Atlanta to Marvin R. Bowen Jr. and Bobbie Lee Jordan. He moved from Covington to Madison in 2001.
Mr. Bowen was a member of the Georgia Goldwing Club and the Communication Workers of America. He loved his family and riding motorcycles.
He is survived by his wife Annette Pierce Bowen, two children, Debra Lee Bowen and James Bowen, six grandchildren, Rich, Wendy, Phillip, David, Paul and Richard and one great-grandchild Mathew. He was preceded in death by a son, William Michael Bowen.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Newnan.

Mary Benton
Mary Benton, 97, of Albany died Saturday, June 14, 2008 at Palmyra Nursing Home in Albany.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 17 at Kimbrell-Stern with the Rev. Tony Haefs, Ross Powell and Tom Pollock officiating. Interment was in Little Ochlocknee Baptist Church Cemetery in Ochlkocknee.
A native of Taylor County, Mrs. Benton lived most of her life in Thomas County. She also lived in Madison, then in Athens, where she was a member of Tallahassee Road Church of God. In 2000 she moved from Athens to Albany where she attended both Gillionville and Sherwood Baptist Church. She loved to travel, listen to gospel music and visit her children and grandchildren. She will always be known as a great prayer warrior for her family and many others who were in need.
Survivors include her daughters, Polly Condon and Sadie Golden, both of Albany; four grandchildren, Larry Alday and his wife Jackie, Danny Alday, Suzanne Thompson and her husband David, and Russ Butler and his wife Kim; seven great-grandchildren, Dax Alday and his wife Melissa, Levi Alday and his wife Kourtney, Will Thompson, Clay Thompson, Andrew Clark, Zachary Butler and Max Butler; four great-great-grandchildren, Dalton Alday, Cason Alday, Lance Anderson and McKensie Alday.

Hubert Harold Driver
Hubert Harold Drive, 62, died Saturday, June 14, 2008 in Madison following a long battle with cancer. He was born April 2, 1946 in Newton County to the late Hubert Howard Driver and Lillian Irene Driver.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving his country in Vietnam in 1967 with the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. After returning from Vietnam until 2001 he worked as a machine or equipment operator at Lithonia Lighting, Mobil Chemical Company and Pike Electric Company. While working at these various placed he made it a priority to obtain his General Equivalency Diploma, which he received in 1980. From 2001 until he became unable to work due to his illness he was a custodian at Morgan County Middle School, which he enjoyed immensely due to the amazing staff at the Middle School. When he was not working he enjoyed fishing, bird watching and spending time with his family and friends. He was a member of Centennial Baptist Church in Rutledge from whom he received much support and derived much strength during the past few months.
Mr. Driver is survived by his mother, Lillian Irene Driver of Conyers; two daughters, Teresa Casper of Monroe and Jennifer Driver Evans of Madison; brother J. D. Driver of Conyers; sisters, Martha Miller (“Meeks) of Monroe, Luanne Wren of Conyers, Joyce Kersey of Lithonia, Donnie Blake of Conyers; three grandchildren, Ashley Bridges and James Casper, both of Monroe and Bennett J. Evans of Madison. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Howard Driver and brothers, George Driver of Covington and Leon Driver and William Nathan Driver (“Woody”), both of Conyers.
Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 17 at A. E. Carter Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Wilburn Hill officiating. Interment was in Madison City Cemetery.

Harold Slaton King
Harold Slaton King, 68, of Rutledge died Saturday, June 14, 2008. He was the son of the late Hansford and Mae Spier King. He was born September 5, 1939 in Forsyth. He was married to Evelyn West of Rutledge on March 12, 1960. The Kings lived in Zionsville, Indiana where Mr. King was vice president of Inland Container Corporation. He retired after 37 years and moved to Rutledge.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Madison. He belonged to the Boxwood Garden Club, Long Shadow Golf Club and the Methodist Men’s Club. He also served as the Adult Men’s Sunday school teacher.
Mr. King is survived by his wife of 48 years, Evelyn West King and their children, Pamela Michelle Kiani and Saied, Laura Elaine Callis and Adam and Gregory Harold King and Lisa; grandchildren, Savanna King, Braden King, Sophie Callis, Lainey Callis, Joshua S. Kiana, Ryan A. Kiana and Margie Way Kiana; and a sister Elizabeth Holliman.
Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 16 at First United Methodist Church in Madison with Dr. Kirk Bozeman officiating. Interment was at Monroe Memorial Gardens in Forsyth.
In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to First United Methodist Church of Madison Building Fund or to the American Cancer Society.

Helen Irene Wise
Helen Wise, 83, died Saturday, June 14, 2008. She was born August 26, 1924 in Abilene, Kansas. She moved to California after marrying and spent the rest of her life there except she moved to Madison in 2003 to live with her son.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgia Huffman and Norma Kersey.
She is survived by four sons, James Meier and Dennis Meier, both of Madison, Max Meier Jr. of El Monte, California and Mark Meier; a number of grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Funeral service and burial will be held at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California.
